About Mandy

Hello to All!
My name is Mandy. I am a 30 something woman and I have lived in southern Wisconsin my entire life. I am a single mother to a teenage son and have been such since my son was born when I was 18. Being a single mother on her own is hard enough work, but try being a single mother working low-pay dead end jobs to support us both! For those of you that do not know, it is VERY hard work! I have spent my entire adult life learning the ways of frugality and applying them to my life. It is a constant learning process that I embrace with open arms.
Shortly after my 18th birthday I became pregnant with my son. I married the father and my son was born in July of 1994. My ex-husband and I were divorced shortly after due to his alcoholism. While we were married he drank away at least half of his weekly paycheck. I had lost my job when I was newly pregnant because I was very sick and could not go to work. My then husband drank away at least half of his weekly paycheck, causing us to accrue large amounts of debt fast, forcing us to move in with his parents. We moved back into our own apartment 4 days before myson was born. The drinking continued and eventually we seperated and divorced. I recieved child support from the time my son was 3 until he was 6 then the payments stopped all together. One day while at the library researching books on how to save money I came across a book by Amy Dacyczyn called The Tightwad Gazette and knew I had found my path!
That was approximately 12 years ago. Since then I have become an avid student of thrift. I find it fun to find new ways to do things that are just as good if not better than the original way and save me money. I love to see how far I can stretch a dollar. I will say it is a continual learning process, there are no quick, easy fixes. In today’s tough economic times more people are turning to frugality to help them through their daily financial battles. One day I was talking with my best friend and she said ” You should have your own web-site”. I thought “why not”? With her help and support, she is a technological genius, “Embrace Your Domestic Goddess” was born. I hope I can provide valuable information to my readers and let everyone out there know that you are not alone.
Thank you for visiting my website. I value everyone’s input so please do not hesitate to comment, email, leave a money saving tip or nugget of knowledge to pass onto the next tightwad!
